Hundreds of U.S. National Parks Visitors Virus Infected
Two national parks in the United States (U.S.), Yellowstone and Grand Teton on Wednesday (19/6) issued a warning about gastrointestinal illness that has struck 200 people in the park at the beginning of summer vacation. The health warnings related to the possible spread of the highly contagious norovirus. The virus appeared in the early weeks of the holiday season in two national parks last year suck around six million visitors. Park managers in northwestern Wyoming was suggested that visitors wash their hands to prevent transmission of the virus that causes flu-like illness with symptoms, including abdominal pain and vomiting, park officials said. They also advise businesses such as restaurants and lodging facilities to improve hygiene and disinfect public areas and asking potentially infected workers to isolate themselves until completely free of the symptoms of the disease for at least 72 hours. A tour group visiting Yellowstone, where Old Faithful geyser is, first complained of symptoms connected with norovirus, a major cause of gastrointestinal disease in the U.S., on June 7. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus has attacked 100 workers Yellowstone, Grand Teton 50 workers, and at least 50 visitors, park officials said. The warning came a year after Yosemite National Park last September warned 230 thousand visitors on the Hantavirus infection that has infected nine visitors and killed three people.
